Press conference of the first China-Africa International Film Festival was held in Shanghai, which is sponsored by China Radio International and the Beijing Film Academy. Global Max Media Group is organizing the upcoming event in partnership with the Cape Town International Film Market.

We gathered in Shanghai for the matters of the China Africa International Film Festival in this fiery June. On behalf of the Beijing Film Academy, I would like to extend a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the coming of all distinguished guests here.

In recent years, Chinese film industry is developing by leaps and bounds, the Chinese film box office has bound from less than 1 billion RMB in 2001 to 45.7 billion RMB in 2016, which has been the second largest global film market now. In addition, the number of Chinese movie screens has exceeded 43,000, which exceeds all other countries in the world. Film creation is also full of prosperity and vitality, and the quality of film has been greatly improved. Besides, foreign exchange in the film industry is promising, and Chinese film has gradually been known and accepted by the world, showing its fascination and glamour in the world film stage. Along with it, various film festivals and film awards have sprung up in our country.

At the same time, with the continuous development of politics and economy, African cultural industry emerges and its film industry develops rapidly as well. By virtue of its unique cultural fascination and glamour, a batch of excellent films has been created, and its own "Oscar"- African Film Awards came into existence as well. With the rise of the African film industry, the African people are accustomed and delighted to watch film and the market potential of the film industry is enormous.

There is always a profound friendship and good cooperative relationship between China and Africa. Especially with the opening of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Sino-Africa relationship have been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Apart from the traditional political and economic exchanges, the Chinese and African people are increasingly willing to understand each other's culture. Therefore, the China-Africa International Film Festival, which conforms to the trend, comes into existence naturally. Within the strategic concept of the Belt and Road, China Radio International, Beijing Film Academy, Global Max Media Group, in cooperation with related African organizations decided to start the China Africa International Film Festival, aiming at promoting national cultural exchanges and cooperation along the Belt and Road, and building a solid foundation for a more friendly cooperation relations between China and Africa through films.

Beijing Film Academy is one of the world-famous professional film academy, which is the only one in China, and the largest in Asia. In addition, the Academy has rich experience in undertaking film festival. From 2015 to 2017, it has undertaken the appraisal work of Tiantan Awards in the last three Beijing International Film Festivals. Besides, it has undertaken the appraisal work of the Third Silk Road International Film Festival in 2016. Therefore, it has the ability to do well in China Africa International Film Festival. I sincerely hope that the Chinese and African film industries both can develop themselves and build up a closer and closer relationship in the process, creating a better tomorrow for China-African film industry, even cultural industry.
